On June 19 Friends of Sligo Creek and the Anacostia Watershed Society co-sponsored a clean up in the Takoma Branch. As part of the clean up, Masaya Meada led a tour of a few of the WSSC pipes along the Takoma Branch that are a potential problem to Sligo Creek. Like the Wheaton Branch, the Takoma Branch suffers from dumping. In a short stretch of stream, six bikes and several pieces of furniture were removed. In addition a carpet contractor appears to be dumping his waste in the branch.
Though Takoma Branch is beautiful, trash was everywhere.
This photo shows various pieces of debris that were caught in one WSSC line, including a reclining chair.

The chair weighed well over a 100 pounds wet.
Access is a major problem clean ups along the Takoma Branch. Getting heavy items was difficult.

Volunteers gather to hear a presentation by Masaya. Soon after the presentation,
there was the traditional rain that occurs on all the Litter Committee Clean up efforts.
We had fourteen volunteers and removed several hundred pounds of trash.
Unfortunately, that only made a dent in the branch.
