Sunday, September 25, 2-4pm

Have you enjoyed walking in the shade by Sligo Creek this summer? Or chatted with a friend on a bench while listening to the creek's rustling sounds? Or threw balls to your dog who was cooling off in the water?

All these things and more are reasons we want to keep Sligo Creek Clean. If we serve the creek, it can continue to serve us well, also!

In this spirit FOSC holds a "Sweep the Creek" event every fall and spring. Our fall cleanup this year will be Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25, 2011, on National Public Lands Day weekend--a national event dedicated to cleaning up and restoring public lands all over the country. We will also be collecting data to report to the Ocean Conservancy, which will contribute to their efforts to reduce trash at the source.

We welcome individuals, groups, families, and students ‹ students can receive service-learning credit for their work (we provide the forms and signatures). We also provide gloves, bags, water, and guidance on what help is most needed in each section (some sections may also request help with removing invasive plants). All you need to bring is your community spirit and a willingness to get a little wet and dirty!

There is no need to sign up ahead of time, but if you will be bringing a group or have questions, it is best to contact the Sweep Public Liaison ahead of time.

We look forward to sharing the honor of stewardship with you during this year's Sweep the Creek.

Patton Stephens, Sweep the Creek Coordinator
