In 2009, students at Eleanor Roosevelt High School under the guidance of Harriette Phelps, Biology Professor Emeritus at the University of the District of Columbia, placed clams in two locations in Sligo Creek and had their tissues analyzed for the presence of various toxic substances. Only levels of TChlordane were found to be above reference contaminant concentrations, at both locations. The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection has been alerted of this finding. Here are excerpts from the report.
