Northwood High School

The Northwood High School will showcase:
Pilot Green Roof
Rain Gardens
Pervious Pavement

The focus of the Environmental Sciences Academy at Northwood HS will be local watershed issues that affect the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Partnerships with local community environmental advocacy groups and with the Anacostia Watershed Society will allow students to educate the community on the importance of citizen involvement in Chesapeake Bay watershed and local watershed restoration efforts. Demonstration green roofs and gardens, such as rain gardens, a bog and wildlife habitat restoration areas will serve as education tools as well as examples to the community of ways to mitigate stormwater runoff and the resulting erosion, one of the major pollution factors in the creek.
