Spring Event Schedule
Garlic Mustard Time is Coming
We are trying very hard to eradicate garlic mustard from Sligo. The plant quickly covers an area, and its roots have chemicals that prevent trees and other plants from growing nearby. We are holding events between April 15 and June 15 in every section where the plants are numerous.
2009 is our fifth year of inviting Sligo residents to remove Garlic Mustard A Chance to Help the Environment Locally A Prize from the Park for Everyone Who Helps! Families Welcome! Groups Invited - Special Accommodations any time this spring!
Garlic mustard is simple to pull, and we hope everyone who lives in the watershed will consider attending an event or two. Students can receive volunteer service hour credits. Last year 144 volunteers collected 3,965 pounds of this plant, an amazing number. But we still had to leave some, so this year we hope for 250 volunteers. RIP leaders can make an effort to accommodate groups on any day of the week. E-mail Sally Gagne.
