Sally Gagné was one of the prime movers in the creation of Friends of Sligo Creek in 2002 and served as president of the group in 2003 and 2004. In 2005 she founded the Friends of Sligo Creek Removing Invasive Plants (RIP) committee and served as its chair until 2009. Sally has worked diligently to restore native plants to Sligo, but has been thwarted by the deer population that rejects the non-native invasive plants, while vigorously consuming native species.
In 2009 Sally created a series of slides addressing the deer problem in Sligo. Sally says:
We don't deserve to lose our plants and other wildlife because we can't find a way to remove deer! This presentation shows the crisis in Sligo, though the losses of life are occurring all around the Beltway. The last slides discuss several views on deer and tell how to contact the Parks Department on the subject.
