Join veteran birder Gail Mackerinan as we look for some of our many spring migrants and breeding birds in the very productive area of Sligo above University Boulevard. We hope to find solitary sandpipers and northern waterthrush near the stormwater ponds, as well as ducks and herons. In the woodlands, we'll keep an eye out for the dozen or so migrant warblers recorded here, as well as flyercatchers, vireos, veery, redstart, parula, and even black-billed cuckoo. Among her many birding activities, Gail Mackiernan wrote the chapter on Sligo Creek Park for the 2001 book, "A Birder's Guide to Montgomery County," published by the Maryland Ornithological Society.
Meet at the SW corner of the Kemp Mill shopping center parking lot, near Magruders (formerly Giant), near the paved pathway in Sligo Creek Park. Please RSVP total number in your party to mwilpers@yahoo.com. In the case of rain, the walk will be cancelled.
