Hurricane Isabel felled a large tree across Section 2 Sligo path which in turn flattened a silver maple sapling. The county removed the big tree, but neglected the maple. FoSC's Clair Garman and Marty Ittner hoisted the tree to standing, using Clair's "come along"--a winch-like contraption that he fastened to the sapling and another tree. Stay tuned this spring to see if the little maple makes it.

Clair Garman hoists the sapling.
The tree is up! Operation attracted attention from path stroller.
Double duty: Clair transports discarded hose trash to stake the tree.

Staked maple. Our task is complete! Now, the wait until spring to see if it lived.

Spring has arrived and the silver maple has survived
